A homemaker, Doris was a 53-year member of Chiques United Methodist Church, Mount Joy, where she taught the Adult Sunday School Class for 43 years. She was a 1933 graduate of the former Mount Joy High School, took accounting courses in Harrisburg, and received a certificate in Bible Classes from Moody Bible Institute in Elizabethtown. Doris enjoyed reading and was a baseball and football fan, her favorite teams being the Phillies and Dallas Cowboys. Doris loved to travel with her late husband, visiting 48 of the 50 United States.
Born in Mount Joy, she was the daughter of the late Irid F. and Elsie Hershey Grove.
Doris is survived by her three children, Lorraine (Gerald) Lutz, and David Darrenkamp, both of Mount Joy, and John Darrenkamp of Elizabethtown; 14 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren. Two daughters, Abby Darrenkamp and Sandra Malick-Aurick, and three brothers, Irid, Eugene, and Gerald Grove preceded her in death.
A Memorial Service honoring Doris's life will be held at Chiques United Methodist Church, 1215 E. Main St., Mount Joy on Sunday, August 14, 2011 at 7 pm. Friends may visit with the family Sunday, August 14th from 6:30 until 7 pm and again following the service in Fellowship Hall. Interment is private in Mount Joy Cemetery.
