Lead Daily Call, Saturday, January 5, 1907, page 1:
Died of Pneumonia
This morning, after an illness of but a few days from pneumonia, James Doonan died at the Homestake hospital. He was taken to the hospital last Thursday, and for a time seemed to be improving, but early this morning his illness took a turn for the worse, and, despite all that care and skill could do, he passed away. James Doonan, who came to the Black Hills from Canada in 1885, was well known to many people of Lead, who liked him, for he was a man of generous impulses and one who had the faculty of making friends. He was born in Sherbrooke, Canada, in 1864, where he leaves a father and two brothers to mourn his loss. In Lead he leaves a sister, Mrs. Patrick Hayes, and a brother, Peter, who is working for the Eleventh Hour Mining company. Peter has been notified of his brother's death and will arrive in the city at 5 o'clock this evening, at which time the arrangements for the funeral will be made.
To the sister and brother in Lead, the father and brothers in Canada, the sympathy of many friends is given.
