Ellen graduated from Rock Port High School in 1937. She worked as a waitress at Betty's Hilltop restaurant, and as a secretary at Dr. Jack Scamman's veterinary clinic.
Ellen passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at her Rock Port home at the age of 92.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Raymond and Dean Derrossett; sisters, Thelma Hartman and Emma Lewis; and two infant siblings.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, David and Raylene Laverentz of Oxnard, Calif., Bill and Carla Laverentz of Burbank, Calif., and Wayne and Teri Laverentz of Tabor, Iowa; daughters and son-in-law, Katherine and Michael Simmonds of London, England, and Denise Laverentz and friend Glen Hadley of Lincoln, Mo.; grandchildren, Roxie Bahrenburg, Julia Laverentz, and Mackenzie Laverentz; four great-grandchildren; several step great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Ellen was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Rock Port, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Church Womens Auxiliary. Ellen was an avid reader, who enjoyed flowers and bird watching.
Services will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 am at the Rock Port First Lutheran Church. Family will greet friends one hour prior to services, at the church. Burial will be held at the Linden Cemetery.
