Earl Ackley, 87, died July 27, 2011. He was born in Johnson City, NY and lived in Indiantown for 11 years, coming from Lynchburg, VA.
He served as an Army medic in the 44th Infantry Division during World War II, earning a Purple Heart.
He played college basketball at Syracuse University and later played professional basketball for a year. He worked for 30 years as a purchasing manager for General Electric in Lynchburg.
He is survived by his children, Jim Ackley of Lynchburg, Robert Ackley of Sunset, SC, Beth Heatwole of Richmond, VA & Jody Morgan of Roseland, VA, brother, William Ackley of Big Bear Lake, CA, 13 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Edna Oldham Ackley, and brothers, Willard & Will Ackley.
SERVICES: A memorial service will be at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Lynchburg, at a later date.
