"Moe" Resident of El Sobrante Michael Alan Brandt, 56, passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2011, at his home in El Sobrante, CA. Michael was born at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas on October 26, 1954 to Karis and Richard Brandt, both of whom were enlisted in the Air Force. Michael was warmly welcomed home from the hospital by his big sister Debbi Lyn. At the age of two, Michael, Debbi Lyn and their mother moved to Fortuna to begin a new chapter in their lives. While in Fortuna, their mother met and fell in love with her future husband, Bill Mahler. At the age of three Michael and his family moved to Richmond, CA and resided in Atchison Village. The family soon grew with the addition of sister Wendy and brother Brian. As a young boy, Michael was active in Boy Scouts and played baseball for the Santa Fe Little League. He attended Washington Elementary in Point Richmond and graduated from Harry Ells High in Richmond, Class of 1972. Michael stayed close to his hometown roots and started working as a steamfitter for the nearby refineries. He was blessed with three sons Gordon, Gary, and Gregory; each craftsmen like their father; which made Michael extremely proud. Michael was a long-time member of UA Local 342, where he was known by his nickname, "Moe." He was also a member of the Richmond Rod & Gun Club, Clampers , and the NRA. He enjoyed watching old western shows and took great pleasure in riding his Harley-Davidson with friends and sharing good times with his buddies at the Capri Club, where he was loved by all. He also enjoyed fishing, playing poker, and target shooting with his sons. Michael will be remembered as a man who lived his life by the Cowboy Code: live each day with courage; take pride in your work; always finish what you start; do what has to be done; be tough, but fair; when you make a promise, keep it; talk less and say more; remember that some things aren't for sale; and know where to draw the line. Michael is preceded in death by his mother Karis Mahler and fathers Richard Brandt and Bill Mahler. He is survived by his sons, Gordon (Robin) Brandt, Gary (Kimberly) Brandt, and Gregory Brandt; the mother of his sons Cassandra Brandt; grandchildren, Logan & Kylie Brandt (Gordon), and Hunter & Clayton Brandt (Gary); brothers Brian (Nancy) Mahler, Robert (Della) Steen, and Larry (Patsy) Mahler; sisters Debbi Lyn Thornton, Wendy Mahler, and Rushell (Les) Baker; nieces Karis (Randy) Sandlin, Patti Ann Mahler, and Ashley (Chris) Caro; nephews Michael Carnes, Nick Anderson, Eric (Stephanie) Steen, Kevin (Kristen) Steen, and Corey Sandlin; Aunt Brenda Witt and Uncle Neil Paquette of Toledo, OH, and many cousins. There will be no funeral services other than a private burial ceremony at Sunrise Cemetery in Fortuna, CA, where Michael will be buried near his father Bill Mahler, grandparents Siipola (Brandt), and other Brandt and Mahler family members.
