GORHAM — Margaret Ann Ahner, 92, formerly of Gorham, passed away at 3:26 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017, in Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

Margaret was born March 21, 1925, in Murphysboro, to Homer McNeill and Mary Jane (Wieland) McNeill.

She had worked at the former Brown Shoe Factory and had then been a secretary for Egyptian Electric in Murphysboro. When she was able, she enjoyed cooking and especially cooking Sunday dinners for her family, and she would also have a garden.

Mrs. Ahner was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Jacob.

Margaret married Herold Ahner on May 27, 1944, in Jacob, and he preceded her in death on March 20, 1993.

Survivors include three children, Gary Ahner and his wife, Judy Ahner of Carterville, Mary Ann Clendenin and her husband, Darrell Clendenin of Gorham, and Laura Jane Arbeiter and her husband, James Arbeiter of Jacob; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Elizabeth Heape of Murphysboro.

She was preceded in death by one son, Robert Ahner; one granddaughter, Mary Jane Clendenin; two brothers, Robert and William McNeill; and her parents.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 4, in Pettett Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mike Kettner officiating and burial in Christ Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church.
