Abba passed her early life in Portland, Maine, where she was graduated at the high-school
for girls in 1856 and was the valedictorian of her class.
The same year married Moses Woolson, her school principal.
She taught at Cincinnati in Ohio; Haverhill and Boston in Massachusetts; and, Concord in New Hampshire.
She was a notable lecturer on history and literature; and an authority of Spanish history.
The Castilian Club of Boston was founded by her; she being the president for many years.
She was the originator of the Woman's Clubhouse at Boston and a hall in the Century Building was named in her honor.
She was a poetress at the celebration of the Centennial of Portland in 1886.
She has been president of the Massachusetts Society for the University Education of Women and the Moral Education Association of Massachusetts. She was a honorary member
of the Maine Historical Society.
She had a remarkably retentive memory and
is probably the ablest woman mentally that Maine had ever produced.
