Mabel "Butch" Ridpath Bickell, 97, Stillwater, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at the Grace Living Center, Stillwater.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Christian Union Church. Larry Eslinger, Charles Wall and Ted Gibson will officiate. Interment will be at the Tryon Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Strode Funeral Home.
Bickell was born May 23, 1903, in Goodnight to George Theodric and Orpha Jane (Foust) Ridpath. She married Asa Arthur Bickell in January 1930. He died in 1952.
Bickell attended schools in Goodnight. After she was married, the couple lived in the area of Goodnight and Merrick. After her husband's death, she continued to farm. In 1954 she commuted to Tryon schools where she worked as a cook. In 1956, she went to work as a cook for Oklahoma State University at Willard Hall. In 1957, she moved back to Tryon. She then moved to Perkins in 1958. She retired in 1965.
She enjoyed meeting with her friends once a week and caring for her youngest grandchild. In 1985, she had a stroke. In 1992, do to her failing health, her family moved her to Knoxville, Iowa to be near her daughter, Nellie.
She was brought back to Stillwater in 1995 to Grace Living Center where she lived until her death.
She loved cooking for her family, the outdoors and having family gatherings. She was known as "Butch" to many friends and family members and as "Mammie" to most of her grandchildren.
She was a member of the Christian Union Church of Tryon, Oklahoma.
She is preceded in death by her husband; four brothers; two sisters; parents; and son, Bobby Dale Bickell.
Bickell is survived by three daughters, Nellie Ruth DeVos, Knoxville, Iowa; Georgia Doreen Dickinson-Roe, Puyallup, Wash.; and Sharon Kay Burch and husband Ron, Sayre; two sons, George Thomas Bickell, Tryon; Roy Arthur Bickell, Burley, Idaho; two sisters, Grace Houston and husband Glen, Stillwater; and Nell "Auntie" Youngker, Stillwater; 16 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
