CENTRAL LAKE - Dennis R. Stabnau, 59, of Central Lake, died Tuesday at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire.
He was born July 7, 1941, in Detroit, the son of Raymond and Catherine (Tomalka) Stabnau.
Dennis was a supervisor for the Ford Motor Company, Michigan Truck Plant in Wayne, Mich., for over 24 years, retiring in 1987. In 1991 he moved to Central Lake from Wayne to fulfill his dream of living on a lake up north. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and working on old classic cars. He also enjoyed relaxing in front of a campfire, caring for his roses and feeding the birds and other wildlife.
On March 20, 1991, in Newland, N.C., he married the former Elaine Croton-Cashion, who survives. He is also survived by his mother, Catherine J. Stabnau of Dearborn Heights; a daughter, Catherine D. Fischer of Garden City; a grandson, Jimmy Fisher; two stepdaughters, Jeanette (John) Jarosz of LaVerne, Calif., and Kelly (Mark) Hess of Waterford; a stepson, Craig Cashion of Central Lake; three stepgrandchildren, John Jarosz and Casey and Carter Hess; a brother, Paul W. (Paula) Stabnau of Lake Ann; and a sister, Marsha K. (Larry) Allsteadt of Dearborn.
He was preceded in death by his father.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Richard McWatters officiating.
Interment will be in Southern Cemetery in Central Lake Township.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
