Lee Roney Thames, of Gulfport, Miss., formerly of Chesterton, died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2005 in Gulfport. He was 87.

He is survived by his wife, Willie Davis Thames, of Gulfport; daughters, Judy Thames, of Michigan City; Brenda Atterberry of LaCrosse; Patti Thames, of Gulfport; sons, Donald Thames of Belton, Mo., Larry Thames, Rodney Thames, both of Gulfport; a stepson, Marcus Shucks of Gulfport; special family members, niece, Jean Lambert of Lawrence County, Miss and Peggy and Ronnie Means of Brandon; 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Lee was born in Monticello, Miss. and served in the U.S. Army. He was a combat veteran of World War II and served in Naples, Foggia, Rome, Arno, Rhineland and central Europe WDGO 33 45. He received the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, EAMETO medal and AR600-68 and was a member of VFW Post 2511, Porter, Ind.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11 in the chapel of Wilson Funeral Home, Monticello. Interment will be in Roberts Cemetery in Monticello.

Visitation will be from 5-10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10 at Wilson Funeral Home, Monticello.
