Son of Inez and Troy Knowles, born in Atlanta in Oct. of 1935. Paul was a soft-spoken individual who was particularly sensitive to the needs of others and was always willing to extend a helping hand whenever and wherever needed. He was educated in the Atlanta Public School System, attending E. R. Carter Elementary and graduating from Booker T. Washington High School. At an early age he joined his families church Atlanta's Butler Street C.M.E. Church, where he held membership for over fifty years. He later served his country as a member of the United States Air Force. Following his military tenure, he completed training to become an iron worker which resulted in his employment by MARTA (Atlanta's Transit System). Paul later married Bonnie Ellington and to this union one son Phillip, who preceded him in death was born. The joys and pleasures of Paul's life, in addition to his closeness to his family and friends included his involvement in special projects such as the "Feed The Hungry" program at Butler Street Church, a volunteer worker with the Atlanta Summer Olympics of 1996, and his efforts with Atlanta's Voter Registration Program. Paul departed this life suddenly in Atlanta on Aug. 12, 2000. He will be remembered as a person of care, concern and compassion, especially as exhibited by his attention to the needs of family and friends, and above all, the care of his mother.
