William James Bartlett, 71, a resident of Bayard for 32 years, where be was active in civic affairs as a member of the town council, the Chamber of Commerce and other organizations, died Sunday at Fort Bayard Veterans Hospital. He was a World War I veteran. As a tribute to a prominent citizen, the Bayard City Hall and all places of business closed Wednesday from 10 am to 12 noon, so the residents of the community might attend funeral services held at the Cox Mortuary Chapel. The rites were conducted by Mrs. Jack Evatt, of the Christian Science Church, with Mrs. Ruth Myra the soloist. Burial was in the Silver City Cemetery. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Addle Tuttle Bartlett; two daughters, Mrs. W. W. Boydstun, Hurley, and Mrs. Paul Peltn. Holtsville, Calif.; a son, Jim Bartlett, Jacksonville, Fl; a brother, Frank Bartlett, Seattle and eight grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers at the funeral were Earl Lett, Charles Smith, Elmer Boyette, Arthur Dodson, Albert Dingman and George Clark.
