The Book "Christy" by Catherine Marshall
The family of James Newton Click was portrayed in the book as BOB ALLEN, keeper of the mill by Blackberry Creek, MARY ALLEN, his superstitious wife, their children Rob, Festus, Creed, Della May, Nula, and Little Burl
******************
Owned and operated CLICK MILL on Big Creek, in the Old 15th District of Cocke Co. Tennessee. It is still on the map.

Jack, as he was called was a Justice of the Peace and very active in his community.

A gentleman, Woodrow Pack, that I corresponded with in 2001 wrote to me:
My Dad was Jesse Andrew Pack 1-14 -1895 - 4-27 -1976 . My mother was Katherine Marie Ellison . 1- 29 -1900 .-12 - 22- 1995, Her brother, Bertie Ellison married , Lizzie Click. Dads brother Noah Clayton Pack married Altha Click after his 1st wife, Kate Fish died.
I have heard about the Clicks all my life. Francis (NOTE: I believe this was James Newton Click) Click , Justice of Peace performed the wedding ceremony for Jesse Pack and Katherine Ellison May 7 , 1922 at his saw mill on Big Creek in the old 15th.

I do remember the old Click Mill. There was a lowhead dam about 75 - 100 yards above the dam and a mill race on the far side of the creek that carried water to the top of the wheel. I think I recall seeing the wheel turn. I have a picture of an unknown child , taken inside the mill. The house just upstream from the mill site still has one or two of the old mill stones by the drive way .Uncle Noah Pack lived there some 50-60- years ago.
The old tales seem to take on a life of their own from telling to telling , still if you were there and heard the early versions, lots of things fit together pretty good.
If you can make a trip down here on what has always been called "Decoration Day", you will most likely find the remaining Old Timers gathered at the cemeteries and old home places. Decoration "Day" is the Sunday before the nationally observed Memorial Day on Monday
