Melvin Grady "Mac" McAlister 74, of Anderson, SC passed away on Friday July 29, 2011 at Hospice of the Upstate.
Born on April 3, 1937 in Anderson, SC to the Marie Pelfrey and late CW McAlister; he was a 20 year US Air Force Veteran. He loved to work in the yard and was a former police and fireman and worked with the EMS and in Security. He was a member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother; he is also survived by his wife Florence E. 'Flo' McAlister; sons: Melvin Jr. 'Butch' (Tammy), Michael, Terry, and Russell McAlister and James W. Shirley; daughters: Rebecca Chancellor, Peggy Curry, Grace Shirley, and Lauren Danielle Wansley; brothers: Larry (Linda), David (Shelby), and Jack (Frances) McAlister; and sister-in-law Velma Jean McAlister.
In addition to his father; he is also preceded in death by brothers Gerald and Jerry McAlister.
Chapel services will be held at 12:00pm on Wednesday August 3, 2011 officiated by Rev. Mark Dixon, Rev. Billy Whitfield, and Rev. Travis Bryan. Burial will follow with Military Honors at MJ Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday August 2, 2011 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
The family will be at their respective homes.
Woodlawn Sosebee Funeral Home and Cremation Services will be assisting the family with arrangements.
