MCCAMMON - Arland Carl Hawkins, 78, longtime resident of McCammon, passed away Friday, July 29th, 2011, at his home after a long struggle with emphysema.

Arland was born June 18th, 1933, to John Carl and Estella Hawkins. He was the oldest of 4 children that included his brother Lionel and two sisters, Ardith and Olean. The family lived in an area known as Hawkins Basin and the children attended school in Marsh Valley. Arland enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing baseball and playing pranks on his little sister Ardith.

He joined the Army in 1953 and served in the Army Corp of Engineers until he was honorably discharged from active duty in 1955, where he served as a reservist for 6 more years.

Arland met the love of his life, Marjorie Alger, in 1954 on a blind date. They were married in 1955 and recently sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple for all time and eternity. They have five children, Eugene Hawkins, of Pocatello, Dan Hawkins (JoJo), of Pocatello, Debbie Hainline, of McCammon, Barbie Linderman (Ron), of McCammon and Richard Hawkins, (Melanie), also of McCammon.

Arland purchased a farm on E. Price Rd where he ran a family dairy until he retired in 1989. He farmed land over in Hawkins Basin for many years also and enjoyed his work. Vacations are short and sweet when you run a dairy, but he enjoyed every minute with his family.

He loved his kids, his grandchildren: Tiffany & Ashley Hainline, Jordan & Krissy Linderman, Keith & Kenith Hawkins and was especially happy to spend the time he had with his great-grandson, Cayson.

Arland enjoyed simple pleasures and spent good times with his neighbors (Glenn and Bobbie Griffith) in a snowmobile club they belonged to. He bought a 4-wheeler a few years back and spent time rolling around the farm with his beloved dog "Sally."

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother and sisters, Ken Hainline (son-in-law) and Jason Hainline (grandson).

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 2, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the MCammon Stake Center, McCammon, Idaho. The family will receive friends on Monday evening, August 1, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the McCammon Stake Center. Interment will be in the Norton Cemetery, McCammon, Idaho.

Thank you to the nurses who cared for Arland and to the many friends and family who touched our lives.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave.
