Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, with a Catholic Daughters Rosary at 4 p.m. and a parish vigil following at 7 p.m.
Betty was born May 30, 1913, on the family farm near Richardton, the daughter of Martin and Frances (Helfrich) Braun. She was raised and educated in Richardton. Betty married Luke Steckler on July 14, 1936, and they moved to Mandan, where Luke worked for the Mandan Creamery (Cloverdale Foods) until they started Steckler's Refrigeration Sales and Service.
In 1999, after Luke's death, she moved from their home on 109 Fourth Ave. N.E. to Liberty Heights. Betty enjoyed her stay at Liberty Heights and the special friendships she made there.
Betty was a lifetime member of the Catholic Daughters of America. During her lifetime she enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, ceramics and playing bridge. Betty's three grandchildren were also very important to her.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Helen Steckler, Mandan; her daughter, Del Steckler and her friend Ron Feiker, Minneapolis; three grandchildren, Todd and his wife Mayra, La Jolla, Texas, and Scott and Kelly, both of Mandan; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Anne Olsen, Mandan, Eleanor and Ed Lantz, Las Vegas, Alma and Joe Eckroth, Kent, Wash., and Lavina and Fran Forster, Mesa, Ariz.; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Joe and Mickey Braun, Elgin, Leo and Lorene Brown, Bentley, and Matt Brown, Glendive, Mont.; one sister-in-law, Bea Brown, Spokane, Wash.; many nieces, nephews and their spouses; several great-nieces and great-nephews; many friends; and her dear lifetime friend, Eva Karls.
Betty's parents, her husband, Luke, her brother, Frank, and an infant son, Vernon Luke, preceded her in death.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Mandan Public Library or St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mandan.
