Ruth Etherington, 91, Rapid City, S.D., died June 6, 1998, in a Rapid City nursing home. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Martin's Church, Center, with music provided by Cindy Berg and Tim Etherington.
Casketbearers will be Cliff Etherington, Larry Etherington, Tony Etherington, Tommy Lumpkin, Raymond Milks and Kevin Krank. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Ruth Hickle was born Jan. 19, 1907, in Oliver County, the daughter of Sherman and Nellie (Lamb) Hickle. Raised in Oliver County, she attended rural schools and graduated from Model High School in Dickinson.
She also graduated from Dickinson Normal and taught school in rural Oliver County. Ruth married Frank Etherington, March 14, 1931, in Mandan. Frank died Dec. 2, 1948.
She moved to Spearfish, S.D. in 1950 and to Rapid City in 1953 where she worked in the accounting department at the Ellsworth Air Force Base until her retirement.
Ruth possessed an active and inquisitive mind and had a life-long love of learning. She also like playing bridge, gardening and reading.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Charles Krank, Dickinson, Alice and Bob Hutchinson, Las Vegas, and Rose and Claude Limpkin, Delta, Ala.; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Bill and Bernice, Center, John, Sioux Falls, S.D., Walter, and Frank and Laurie, all of Rapid City; 24 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Pearl Albers, Hannover; and two brothers, William Hickle, Center, and Chester Hickle, Wilton.
