Interesting that the family obituary has one birthday and the marker has another. I have seen the date in the family Bible and April 6th is correct. As it says, he came from Tuscaloosa where he attended the University of Alabama, which at that time was being re-started after the War. He was one of less than 200 students attending in 1871 and 1872.
The newspaper obituary lists incorrect father. Pedigree chart 15 in the James Black Golson book has WMG as son of Judge Wyatt George Mallard Golson, probate judge in Prattville, Alabama. The information was provided to Black by WMG himself. This has also been confirmed with children of Jay Gordon Golson. Son Louis Braxton Golson was born in 1891 after Alfred.
