"SHIELDS, THOMAS (ECK), age 85, of 2100 Wheeler Street, Johnson City, died at the residence 7 a.m. Tuesday. Survivors: daughter, Mrs. Perry Williams, Johnson City; two half-sisters, Mrs. Bobby Rhea, Johnson City, and Miss Sallie Shields, Johnson City; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren. He was a native of Hamblen County and had resided in Johnson City the past seven years. He was a member of Catherine Nenney Baptist Church. Funeral 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Catherine Nenney Baptist Church, Whitesburg, Rev. Claude Slagle and the church pastor officiating. Burial in church cemetery. Pallbearers and flowerbearers will be friends. Appalachian Funeral Home, Johnson City, in charge."
