LaVon Jessie Holroyd was born in Strawberry Point, Iowa on August 10, 1920. She was the daughter of Milo and Emma (Bigelow) Holroyd. She grew up as part of a large family in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Her father passed away in 1937. On January 11, 1941, LaVon married Forrest Ray Frederick, Jr. in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The couple had no children.

LaVon had sisters-in-law who kept Holroyd family records. When their information was compiled and distributed, this loving tribute was added to LaVon and Forrest's family group sheet-
"A personal note to our uncle and aunt from Emma's grandchildren- although you never had your own, we claim you as ours -- you have parented, cared for and loved so many of us inspite of ourselves."
