AKA "SANDY," "BOB," TEX"
March 1, 1929 - July 23, 2011
After a year-long battle with multiple infections following abdominal surgery, died at age 82. He was the youngest of 8 children born to James Polk and Alma Blanche Ownby on a farm in Whitewright, Texas. Before he graduated from Whitewright High School, Sandy joined the Air Force in 1947. He was called Bob by the military buddies that he met all over the United States, Japan and Korea. It was in Japan that he met the great love of his life, Matsuko, known as Sally to her American Air Force boss. They married in March 1953 in three ceremonies, celebrating three Wedding Anniversary days each year for 58 years!
Once you were his friend, you were a friend for life. He entertained everyone with endless jokes and one-liners. Even at the "81" medical facilities that treated him, he managed to keep the staff smiling and laughing. A true Southern gentleman, he always had a "Thank you" for his caregivers.
A committal service and burial with Military Honors will be held on Friday, July 29, at 9:30 a.m. sharp at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery at 5810 Midway Road, Dixon, CA 95620.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 30, at 2 p.m. at the Casa De Flores Mobile Home Park Clubhouse, 701 East Lassen Avenue, Chico, CA 95973. The family requests all donations to be sent to the Red Cross, his favorite charity.
