Alexander Charles Halback was born in Franklin County, Missouri to August and Augusta (Paubel) Halbach. The couple had fifteen children including Alexander. His siblings were: William, Emma, Amanda, Albert, Frederica, Edward, Matilda, Elizabeth, Emil, Caroline,Ida Charles, Nora and Richard.

He married Nellie E. Reinbold about 1904. He was a retail merchant and owned his own grocery store. They had at least two children, Gerald and Ida.

He died age 72 at St. Francis Hospital in Washington, MO, but his usual residence was Pacific, Franklin Co. MO. His death certificate states he was buried at Memorial Park cemetery.
