Bessie Gammons Horton, 77, of Elastic Plant Road, Stuart, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at R.J. Reynolds-Patrick County Memorial Hospital.

A native of Patrick County, she was born July 13, 1926, to the late Robert and Emma Frye Gammons.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Amos "Chick" Horton; a son, James Arthur "Bud" Horton; and three brothers, Raymond Gammons, Lowell Gammons, and Manuel Gammons.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda Hall and Mary Spence, both of Stuart; a sister, Vera Hamm of Stuart; two granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bernard Handy officiating.

Burial will follow in the Church of Christ Cemetery in Dry Pond.

The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to C.C.D.F. Fire Department and Rescue Squad, c/o Pat Shouse, 1918 Orchard Loop, Stuart, Va. 24171.
