Mary Elizabeth was born in July 1879 at the Riley ranch/farm. The only official record that has been found for her is the 1880 census. It identifies her as part of the Riley family and she is the second born. The census was recorded as of the 10th day of June, 1880 and Mary Elizabeth was identified as 10 months old.

She was born on 25 July 1879, and she died on 16 April 1892 when she was only 12 years old. No records or cause of her death have been found and she was not buried in the Runge Catholic Cemetery, like most of her immediate family members because Runge was just becoming a town at the time of her death. So the Runge Catholic Cemetery had not yet been established. It is thought that she was buried on the Riley Ranch, and indeed there was a burial area that was noted on one of the land maps that identifies Riley land. Those grave sites were moved, but where they were moved to is not known. Mary Elizabeth's grave marker was found in the Panna Maira Cemetery in Panna Maria, Texas. The Riley family was known to attend the Catholic Church in Panna Maria in the late 1800's.

An interesting point about the grave marker for Mary Elizabeth is that it was a two-sided marker and the other side identified the birth and death of James Riley, son of John and Maggie Riley. He was born on 10 January 1886 and died on 17 January 1886. The grave marker was for two people and it was located in a small area, not enough room for two separate gravesites. So whether they were buried in Panna Maria, or whether they were buried on the Riley Ranch and moved, the remembrance grave marker is at the Panna Maria Cemetery.

The Riley family members were devout Catholics and the family was significant in the early establishment of the Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Runge. Her mother, Margaret Ellen, was known to dedicate some statues at the church to family members. There was a Virgin Mary statue that was dedicated to Mary Elizabeth; the date and status of what happened to the statue is not known. The statue is no longer at the church.
