John was born in Dalton, Nebraska and went to school in Gurley, NB. He was a truck driver for Navajo Freight Lines until he retired in 1973. Johnny and Doris traded in antiques.

He served in WWII with the Corp of Army Engineers in the 43rd Battalion where he was awarded the bronze star for meritorious service.
