George Alton Long, age 86, passed away on July 22, 2011 after a valiant bout with cancer.

He was born January 30, 1925 to William & Irene Long in Franklin Idaho.

He married Grace Whitehead on June 27, 1943.

After serving his country in the US Navy he moved his young family to Ogden for more job opportunities such as working for the Union Pacific Railroad, IML and Swift trucking. He worked and retired after 25 years of service at the Defense Depot Ogden. After retirement he went back to work at the Auto Auction.

He joined the Roy Eagle Lodge where he enjoyed playing Santa Claus for the children and cooking breakfast for fund raisers.

He enjoyed camping, singing and time spent with family and friends at their property in Huntsville.

He and Grace were sealed in the Ogden Temple in 1996. He was an elder for the Church of Latter Day Saints.

George is survived by his wife of 68 years, Grace. His children Mike (Gayle) Long, Janice (Fred) Edmunds and Pauline (Gerald) Miller. He is survived by 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He is survived by brother Bud (Ardella) Long and Richard (Marlene) Long.

He is preceded in death by his son Kent, parents George and Irene, sisters LaRene Anderson and Maxine Rowel.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 27th at Leavitt's Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden at 11:00 am. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the service.

Interment in Aultorest Memorial Park.
