BOBBY L. "BL" ALBRIGHT, 81, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2007, at Betz Nursing Home, Auburn. He was a lifelong DeKalb County resident. Born May 28, 1925, he was the the son of Howard (Doc) and Jessie Lower. He was a 1943 graduate of Waterloo High School and served in the Army.
As a member of the 24"' Division, he served his country in New Guinea, the Philippines, Leyte, and the Japanese mainland.
He was a decorated veteran receiving the Bronze Star for Heroic Achievement, Victory Medal, and a Purple Heart for wounds received in action.
On June 5, 1948, he married Vereda Boman and they moved to Bloomington where he earned a business degree from Indiana University.
Returning to Waterloo, he and his father-in-law formed Boman and Albright, a fuel oil distributorship. The family business expanded into Hoosier Propane, L&L Leasing, Domex, Inc., DeKalb Oil, and Sulpher Springs Agra. He was a quiet community volunteer starting as a volunteer fireman, Pony League coach, Boy Scout leader and a member of the Lions Club, Masonic Temple, Knights of Pythias, Waterloo Veterans of Foreign War, and DeKalb Disabled Veterans.
He also served on the DeKalb County Election Board and as president of the Waterloo Grant Township Library Board, and the social concerns chair of the Waterloo Methodist Church.
He was one of small group of people who built and maintained the Waterloo Little League field and association where generations of kids participate in sports.
In later years, he became more of a community activist supporting causes through debate and letters to the editor.
He taught his five children, five grandchildren, nieces and nephews and anyone who chose to become part of the Albright family to be Chicago Cub and Indiana University fan, politically aware liberal Democrats, patriotic, respectful of the environment, how to fish and vote, and the location of good restaurants.
He excelled in baking pies and fruitcakes, making sauerkraut, cooking breakfast, and frying fresh fish.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Vereda; three sons and their spouses, Brian and Sarah Albright of Hamilton, Lee and Karen Albright of Fort Wayne, Adam and Tammy Albright of Columbus, Ohio; two daughters and one spouse, Joni Albright and Edward Lutz of Indianapolis and Ellen Meyer of Auburn; five grandchildren, Theodore Lutz, Clark Albright, Jessica Albright, Audrey Albright, and Madeline Albright.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Jack Albright.
