William H. McFadden, 87, a retired Muncie businessman, died Thursday in his home, apparently as the result of a heart attack.
He was born in Eaton and was a graduate of Eaton High School and Muncie Business College.
He was vice president, secretary-treasurer and manager of Muncie Finance Co. for 40 years before retiring.
Mr. McFadden was a member of The Muncie Club and had been the organization's secretary for more than 20 years. His other memberships included Eaton Masonic Lodge 606, Muncie Rotary Club and the Salvation Army, of which he was a life member. During World War II he was a group commander in the Civil Air Patrol. He was Muncie Rotary Club's Christmas bellringer for the Salvation Army, raising thousands of dollars over the years from his fellow members to be used in preparing Christmas baskets for the needy.
Surviving are a sister, Martha (Mrs. Herman) Royer, Muncie; a niece, Martha (Mrs. William) Butler of Mujncie, and two nephews, Robert H. McFadden of Anderson and Richard F. McFadden of Pendleton.
His wife, Ruth Mauzy McFadden, for more than 50 years society editor of The Muncie Evening Press, died in 1985.
Services for Mr. McFadden will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Meeks Mortuary, with Ronald Naylor, senior pastor of First Presbyterian Church, presiding. Entombment will be in Elm Ridge Mausoleum. Calling at the mortuary will be 4-7 p.m. today and before services Saturday.
