Arthur Dale was born in South Dakota, and came to Tacoma, WA in 1920 after serving in WWI. He opened his first gas station at 6th Avenue and Pine Street in 1920. He married Winifred Cobb in 1920 and they had one daughter, Bernice I Dale. He died 3 September 1955 in a Seattle hospital.
