Darlene M. Gross was born in Burt, the daughter of John and Meta (Tietz)Gifford. She was the 11th child of 15 children and received her education in Burt. On Dec. l, 1957, she was united in marriage to Perry Alfred Gross of Burt at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple made their home in
Leland where they raised two sons. Darlene worked at Winnebago Industries for 31 years before retiring in 1996. She was very active in the work of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Leland with many years of loving ser­vice.
She enjoyed traveling with her husband in their motor home. She loved spending time with family and friends. She enriched the many lives she touched. She will be missed by all who loved her. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Perry Gross, of Leland; son Jef­fery, of Forest City, Kevin and wife, Judith, of Forest City; two grandchildren and one great­ grandchild. Also, three brothers, Richard Gifford and wife, Liz, of Slater,Gary Gifford and wife, Elaine, of Burt, and Don Gifford and wife, Bobbie, of Garner; seven sisters, Rosetta Blumer and Elvera Blumer, both of LuVerne, Leona Larson and husband, Gene, of Fenton, Deloris Boeckholt and husband, Elvin, of Titonka, Lucille Fabor and husband, Melvin, of Burt, Karen Wubben and husband, Neil, of Osage, and Diana Bunkofske and husband, Larry, of Burt; three sisters-in-law, Mary Jo Gifford, of Ankeny, Arla Gifford, of Algona and Mary Gifford, of Burt; a brother-in-law, Harley Boeckholt of Titonka. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, two sis­ters, Maxine Gifford and Gladys Boeckholt and three brothers, Gordon, Jack and Jerry Gifford.
Darlene died at her home in Leland, on Tuesday (March 13, 2001) at the age of 61 years. The service will be held at 10
a.m. on Friday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Leland with Rev. Dan Christensen officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery in Leland. Vistation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N Clark St. in Forest City. Petersen Lund Funeral Home, (641) 585-2685.
