ATKINS — A. Leea Anderson-Nesbitt, age 93, of Atkins, was born May 4, 1924, the sixth of nine children of Joe and Laura (Huckabee) Simmons.

The Simmons home was on a 160-acre fruit, gardens, and animal farm where she learned and developed her skills to become a wonderful homemaker, mother and grandmother. It also helped as she worked as owner/manager of a rural Jot-It-Down country store, salesperson for Van-Atkins Department Stores, a bus driver for Atkins public schools, a security guard for Burns Security at various manufacturing plants in Pope and Yell counties. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Atkins and a Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star. Leea and her sisters were known for their ability as basketball players at Dover High School — her favorite pastime memory.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by all of her siblings and her husbands, Vernon Anderson, and Ray Nesbitt, her brothers Garland Simmons, Lloyd Simmons and J.T. Simmons, her sisters Marie Karnes, Alfa Mickie Schmelzer, Pearl Dixon, Claudine White and Maxine Staggs.

Survivors include one daughter Glenda (Dwane) Luter, three sons, Leon (Mary) Anderson, Ken Anderson, and Ronald (Angie) Anderson and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren

The family will visit with friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at Lemley Funeral Home in Atkins.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018, at Lemley Funeral Home in Atkins with Revs. David Bishop and Mark Simmons officiating. Burial will follow at Ball Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Clay Anderson, Adam Anderson, Wendell Eoff, Ron Eoff, Randy Staggs and Brian Simmons.
