Bud Sorenson, age 85, of 315-17th Street, died at his home on July 18, 2011.

His body has been cremated. A Memorial service will be Saturday, July 23, 2011, at 10 a.m. at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets. Burial will be in the Mineral Ridge Cemetery in Ridgeport. Military honors will be conducted by the Boone Veterans Council.

Bud was born in Ames, Iowa, on January 10, 1926, the son of Elmer and Nora (Hoffmeister) Sorenson.

He attended grade school in Mackey and graduated from Story City High School in 1943.

Bud served in the United States Army during World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

On March 16, 1947, Bud married Shirley Ann Bennett in Troy, Kansas.

In earlier years, Bud worked for Priebe and Sons Hatchery as a hatchery manager, and then was a feed and equipment salesman for Professional Feed and Doughboy Feeds.

For 19 years, Bud was employed as a meat cutter at IBP and Oscar Mayer in Perry.

After retiring in 1983, he worked part-time at Moffitt's Ford.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #56 and in earlier years, the Boone Jaycees.

Bud enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and watching them participate in sports.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley, an infant son, his sister Doris, and daughter-in-law Peggy.

He is survived by his son Michael Sorenson and wife Connie of Ogden; his daughter Patricia McLaughlin and husband Tom of Boone; two sisters Elma Boersma of Humboldt and Margaret Phillips of Belton, Missouri; three grandchildren David McLaughlin and wife Barbara of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Shane Sorenson and wife Jodi of Pleasantville, and Chad Sorenson and wife Brittney of Boone; four step-grandchildren Tina McLaughlin, Darin Lloyd and wife Marilyn, Chad Claire and wife Debra, and Marc Claire; and four great-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Visitation continues on Saturday at the funeral chapel from 8 a.m. until service time.

Memorials may be directed to the family to establish a memorial in memory of Bud.
