Belle Dormer came to the Klondike in 1900. While there, she worked as the society columnist for the Klondike Nugget. In September of 1904, Belle went to Fairbanks, Alaska and met Daniel A. McCarty. She filed for a divorce from John Dormer in June 1905. Belle and Daniel McCarty were married in Fairbanks, Alaska in July 1905. In November of that same year she went to San Francisco and secured a divorce from her previous husband, John Dormer. Belle Dormer was visiting in San Francisco during the 1906 earthquake. She was staying at the Palace Hotel and was there to see her son perform in a play. In July 1906, Belle returned to Fairbanks, Alaska and filed a civil lawsuit against Daneil A. McCarty which she lost. (She could not file for a divorce from him because she married him while still married to John Dormer.) In the lawsuit Belle was seeking financial compensation for McCarty's assault on her virtue. She then left Fairbanks around November 1906 and went to California and then on to Rawhide, Nevada.
