Samuel A. Wellborn Sr., 78, retired steelworker, died at 9:45 a.m. Thursday in his residence at 1517 Creswell after a long illness.
A resident of Shreveport for the past nine years, Mr. Wellborn formerly resided in Bradley, Ark. He was a native of Lockesburg, Ark. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Doddridge, Ark.
The body will be shipped to Doddridge, Ark., where funeral arrangement are scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday. Burial will follow in the Doddridge cemetery. Rose-Neath Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
He is survived by his widow; two sons, Joseph of Texarkana, Ark., and Samuel A. Jr. of Shreveport; six daughters, Mrs. Bob Merrill of Texarkana, Tex., Mrs. Royce Shriver of Shelbyville, Tenn., Mrs. Bob Anderson of Piney Woods, Wyo., Mrs. Vernon May of Sarepta, Mrs. Willie Young of Shreveport and Miss Charlene Wellborn of Shreveport; 21 grandchildren and on great-grandchild.
