In memory of Jacob Olson, who was born about 1779, and immigrated to America about 1800. His date of death is also an approximation, as we see him in the 1850 census but can't find him in census 10 years later.

In the 1850 Census Jacob stated he was born in Hamburg, Germany.
In the 1880 Census, his son James gave Jacob's birthplace as Denmark.
After James' death, James' widow stated Jacob was from Sweden. So far we haven't found the immigration record to verify the correct location.
However, Hamburg, Germany is close to Denmark, so my personal guess is born in Hamburg, possibly raised in Denmark or was living in Denmark when he decided to come to the United States, and he was probably of Scandinavian descent.

Notes on Family Origins:

Oct 8, 2013.
We have a very strong 4th-6th cousin DNA match at 96% confidence, and their entire family is from Undersåker Jämtlands, Sweden going back to the mid 1600's.
However, we have Olsons in a second branch of our tree, so it'd be helpful if another descendant got tested to verify they have the same match. Then we'd know if the match is to Jacob's family.

Update: Aug. 29, 2015:
Two Olson cousins have a common recent DNA match, whose family came from Denmark, which lends credibility that Jacob's family may have come from there in more recent generations.
------------------

Jacob was married to Polly* Spencer 8 Feb 1803; intentions to marry appear to be about 21 January 1803. He and Polly had son James in 1808.

It's unknown when Polly passed away; it was between the 1840 census and his marriage to Susan Ryder on 24 October 1847.

It's a good bet they're all at Seaside Cemetery, however they may not have headstones.

*Polly was a nickname for Mary.
