According to his death certificate, his full name was John S. Culler, a white male, widowed, retired carpenter for 3 years & 8 months, aged 71 years, 4 months and 10 days. He was born July 7, 1850 in Wilkesboro, Wilkes County, North Carolina, and died November 17, 1921 at 9:30 a.m. in Meat Camp Township, Watauga County, North Carolina. Cause of death was from a second stoke of paralysis. His parents were listed as, Benjamin Culler who was born in Orangburg County, South Carolina, and Nancy (Lane) Culler, born in Wilkesboro, Wilkes County, North Carolina.
