Matilda J Beezley - Adopted Daughter of Rev & Mrs William T H Beezley.

Matilda was enumerated in the 1860 Williamson Co., TX Census (Post Office at San Gabriel, Milam Co., TX) in the household of her adoptive parents, W T H & J A Beasley (Beezley). On this census, her father was shown as born in OH, her mother in born in IN. Matilda is shown to be age 13, born in IL. Her father was a Baptist Preacher. Other in the household were Juliett, age 9, born in TX and Cary W, age 6, born in TX.

Matilda married before 1870, Alfred M Locklin, a son of William Lawson Locklin Sr and Nancy Mercer. No marriage record found to date.

In 1870, Matilda and Alfred were enumerated in the Milam Co., TX census in the household of Alfred's widowed father, William Lawson Locklin Sr.

In 1880, they were enumerated in the Milam Co., TX Census. Living in their household were:
Minnie Locklin, Age 6 - Single, Adopted Daughter, born in TX;
William Mace, Age 9 - Single, Orphan Male, born in IL.
Edmond Graves, age 14, black, single - farm hand, laborer - born about 1866, in TX. His mother is listed as born in AL;
Frank Morgan, age 19, single - farmer, born about 1861, in IL. Relationship - no direct. His father is listed as born in KY.

It is believed that Alfred died a short time after the 1880 census.

Matilda married, 26 Nov 1882 in Milam Co., TX, James M Alexander. They were enumerated in the 1900 Rockdale, Milam Co., TX Census. In 1910 Milam Co., TX Census, Matilda and James Alexander (written as Alexandria) were living, as Lodgers, in the household of James Theodore and Minnie Louise Vogel Fulcher. In 1920 Milam Co., TX, Matilda J Alexander was again enumerated in the household of James T and Minnie Fulcher. Matilda's relationship to the head of household was shown as Mother-In-Law. This would prove that Minnie was, indeed, the adopted daughter of Alfred M Locklin and Matilda J Beezley, shown in the 1880 Census.

Matilda's 2nd husband, James M Alexander, died in 11 Apr 1912 and Matilda married, 16 Mar 1921 in Milam Co., TX, Lee Dent Wood.

Matilda died in Austin, Travis Co., TX in the Confederate Home. On 20 Jan 1926 in Austin, Travis Co., TX in the Confederate Home, Matilda's 3rd husband, Lee Dent Wood died and was buried at Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple, Bell Co., TX.

Note: Although Matilda's Death record indicates she was born in KY, all census records I have located show her born in IL.
