Sylvan, 98, entered eternal life at the Countryside Home in Jefferson. He was born the son of the late Herman & Emma (Neumann) Broker. Sylvan married Margaret Trieloff of Lake Mills on Aug. 1, 1935. She preceded him in death on March 24, 2007. He was a valedictorian graduate of Dr. Martin Luther College at New Ulm, MN, in 1931. Sylvan taught Lutheran school in Lake Mills for 15 years and at Helenville for four years. He later was employed by and retired from the former Creamery Package Co. Sylvan was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, had served on various church boards and was active in church functions. Following his retirement, he worked as a security guard and was a hobby gardener. Survivors include two sons, Daryl (Ruthann) of Fort Atkinson, WI and Robert (Anne) of Keller, TX; four grandchildren, Nancy (William) Turnbull of Bartlett, IL, Lisa (Jason) Badura of Whitewater, WI, Caresse (Christian) John of Hermitage, TN, and Grayson Broker of Keller, TX; three great-grandchildren, McKinzi Leahy of Galesburg, IL, Kylee Leahy of Bartlett, IL, and Amelia John of Hermitage, TN; and nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Also preceding in death was a son, Mark; one daughter, Kathleen; brother and sister-in-law, Floyd & Luella Broker; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Oscar & Viola Trieloff. Funeral services were held at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. James E. Rath and the Rev. Bruce A. McKenney officiating. Burial was in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.
