Galen Englund, 76, died on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at his residence in Grygla, MN surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla, MN with Rev. Mary Gilthvedt & Pastor John Barkman officiating. Burial will follow at Espelie Cemetery, rural Grygla, MN.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer service on Friday, August 13, 2010 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral on Saturday at the church.
Galen Earl Englund was born August 17, 1933 at his grandparents farm in Lee Township, Beltrami County, MN the son of Emil and Ellen (Jelle) Englund. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church east of Grygla, MN. Galen attended country school in Beltrami County and Marshall County and then attended the Agriculture College in Crookston, MN.
As a young man, Galen helped a lot on the family farm after his mom and brother were killed in a car-train accident. Galen served in the United States Army in Korea, from October 18, 1956 until being Honorably Discharged on August 11, 1958. He also worked in Grand Forks in the sugar beet and potato fields.
He was united in marriage to Sharon Lindwick on July 18, 1964 in Germantown, MN and to this union there were four children born, Glenn, Allen, Sheila and Tina. They made their home on the Englund family farm on Sharon Road in Beltrami County where they farmed and raised their family.
Galen enjoyed farming, auction sales, riding his 3-wheeler, taking care of his cattle and sheep, hunting with the gang, laughing with his four grandkids that were his pride and joy, spending time with Sharon living and working together on the farm, and later years, he enjoyed watching western shows and listening to old-time music. In November of 2009 they moved into Grygla, MN.
Galen was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and he served on the Lee Township board.
Survivors include his loving wife of 46 years, Sharon of Grygla; four children, Glenn Englund of Thief River Falls, MN, Allen (Stacy) Englund of Goodridge, MN, Sheila (Doug) Forst of Strathcona, MN and Tina Englund of Grygla, MN; four grandchildren, Skyler Forst, Ethan Englund, Evan Englund and Jax Remington Galen Englund; brother, Kenny (Barb) Englund of Thief River Falls, MN; sisters, Shirley (Clayton) Omlid of Isanti, MN and Betty (Clayton) Loiland of Thief River Falls, MN; sisters-in-law, Carol (John) Fila of CA and Donna Lindwick of Moorhead, MN; special family friend, Mary Carlson; he is also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; brothers, Dewayne, Vernon and Jerry Englund; sister, Elaine Englund; nephew, Kelly Englund; brothers-in-law, Leighton Butch Lindwick and Robert Zavoral.
