ANNA PUETZ-HANSMANN, age 104, died at her home in Brainerd on Sunday, January 24, 2010. Anna was born in Brainerd on September 27, 1905 to Peter and Alexina (Sauvageau) Dechaine. She married Michael Joseph Puetz at St. Mathias Catholic Church on January 6, 1924. They had seven children- Marie Bragg of White Bear Lake, Alvina Theis of Little Falls, Evelyn Caughey of Crystal, Arlene (Jim) Freeman of Brainerd, Darlyne (Jimmie) Dano of Nisswa, Raymond (Marilyn) Puetz of Brainerd, and infant daughter Shirley who died earlier. Also surviving are 29 grandchildren and numerous greatgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Shirley, husband Michael Puetz and Richard Hansmann, brothers Hank, Ernest and Albert Dechaine, sisters Marion Pickar and Bernice Pickar, sons-in law Leonard Bragg, Frank Theis, Francis Caughey, and Lynn Hartman.
Anna had a large, loving family that all helped her in her later years. We were all especially thankful to her granddaughter Diane Layer who moved in with her and took very good care of her until her death. We are all very thankful for having her all these years, and will miss her dearly. Anna was a hard worker on the farm. She had a big garden, canning and raising chickens for extra money. She learned to make wood fiber flowers, selling them for weddings.
She learned to drive in 1960 after her husband Michael died. Anna went to work cleaning for people and shortly after she got a job at the State Hospital caring for children that lived there. She loved that job, working there for over 25 years.
Her memberships included the American Legion Auxiliary, St. Mathias Catholic Church, and St. Andrews Catholic Church. She loved to dance and kept it up into her later years. She loved music and would spend hours listening to her son Rays songs with her friend and neighbor Leo Hartman. In September 1990,
Anna married Richard Hansmann and moved to Little Falls. They later moved back to their home on Pine Street in Brainerd. Richard died February 2, 1997 and Anna continued to live on Pine Street until her death.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM Monday, February 1, 2010 at St. Mathias Catholic Church with visitation at the church the hour before services. Burial will be in St. Mathias Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Nelson-Doran Funeral Home, Brainerd.
