married Nancy Josephine Short. Had 13 children that lived to adulthood. Father-Mathew Hopson Cheatham. Mother-Emily Groggins Stone Cheatham. Was Texas Ranger - Ranger records showed to be 5'6" blue eyed and red headed. He and brother Manoh Richard "Dick" had sawmill on Pecan Bayou and provided lumber for floor and roof of courthouse. Was a Mason. He and brother "Dick" also had flour mill in Trickham - produced first flour to be put in sacks in this area - XXXX Cheatham's Best - was stamped onto sacks. Last Indian killed in Brown County was killed on his place in Clear Creek. He was the last of the Old Texas Rangers alive in Brown County at the time of his death. Obituary in Brownwood Bullitin implied if you were in a fight you wanted him on your side.
