Blue Ridge Lake claimed its second victim of the summer Sunday when Charles Edward Ballew, 6, was drowned at Morganton Point. The child was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Ballew, former Fannin Countians but now of Wichita Falls, Texas, who were here visiting relatives. His body was recovered by volunteers some 30 minutes after he was drowned, it was learned.
Apart from his parents, his is survived by a brother, James Howard Ballew; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Henson, route 1, Mineral Bluff; and Mrs. Mattie Ballew of Michigan; great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Henson, route 1, Mineral Bluff, and Mrs. Stephen Henry Davis, Etowah.
Funeral services were conducted by the Revs. Ralph Henson and Bill Johnson at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock. Pallbearers were Grady Henson, Dewey Simonds, Cub Henson, and Junior McMahan. Honorary pallbearers were Wendell Davis, Windom Davis, Jack Davis, and Cecil Gibbs. Interment was in the church cemetery under direction of Chastain-Pack Funeral Home.
