Edith "Jewell" Nelson, 84, Kokomo, went to be with the Lord from Howard Regional Health System, Kokomo, at 12:07 A.M. Friday, July 15, 2011.
Jewell was born January 10, 1927 in Tazewell, TN to the late Hermon and Bessie (Treece) Alston, and attended Tazewell schools. Jewell enjoyed 44 years of marriage with Paris Leroy Nelson until his passing in 2005. Jewell worked a number of places throughout her life, and finished with retirement from General Motors after 24 years of service there. She faithfully attended the Jesus Apostolic Faith Church, Galveston, serving on the board and as the treasurer.
Church made up the biggest part of her life, as she was always praying, and was a beautiful, faithful servant of the Lord. Even in her last few years, Jewell stayed very active. She loved to shop, work word search puzzles, and pull pranks on her friends and family. Above all, she was a wonderful mother and grandmother.
Jewell is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Butch) Horner, Kokomo; a step-son, Paris Leroy Nelson II, Allen, TX; her grandchildren, Ryan, Ashley, Alston, Dustin, Tiffany, Paris Leroy III, Zachary, Jenifer, Chelsea and Samantha; a sister, Eupha E. (Charles) Smith; and brothers, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Ray Alston and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth "Pete" Gail Alston. Other survivors include a great grandchild, Kenlie "Little Bit" and several other great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, many special friends, and little children that loved her dearly; along with her grand pets, Milo, Macy, Bubba, Snooki and Vinni.
Jewell was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paris Leroy Nelson; a sister, Nannie; four brothers, Euelle, Beverley "Bug", H.L. and Steve, along with some special friends.
Jewell's family will be receiving relatives and friends for a time of visitation on Monday, July 18, 2011 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Ellers Mortuary, Webster Street Chapel, Kokomo, IN. A funeral service honoring Jewell's life will be held on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. also at the mortuary with Pastor Nettie Evans, and Rev. William Price officiating. After the service, we will be taking Jewell to her final resting place in Albright Cemetery, Kokomo, IN.
