ACHTEMEIER, Vernon William, 84, a resident of Prattville, AL died peacefully on Saturday,Sept. 20, 2008.
Graveside services will be on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Prattville Memory Gardens with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. Mr. Achtemeier proudly served his country during World War II as a Veteran of the United States Navy and finished his 20 year military career with the United States Air Force. After he retired from the USAF, he worked with the postal service in Montgomery, AL. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Duensing Actemeier; son, Garry Achtemeier; granddaughter, Sarah Haskell.
He is survived by 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Jolene (Robert) Mell, Aiken, SC and Londa (Lon) Haskell, Huntsville, AL; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Allan (Terri) Achtemier, Prattville, AL and Lonnie (Linda) Achtemeier, Montgomery, AL; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Donna Bedian, Vera Mathiesen and Marie Davidson; numerous other relatives. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the American Diabetes Foundation or the Christ Lutheran Church.
