MT. VERNON — John Avery Jones, 60, formerly of Mt. Vernon, died Sunday, May 8, 2011, in Modesto, Calif.
He was born Nov. 24, 1950, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Paul and Carrie Fay (Hodge) Jones.
John is survived by six sisters, Marilyn Fay Redeker and husband Ron of Woodridge, Janet Ann Russomanno of Buford, Ga., Carol Ruth Jackson of Ina, Rosemary Wheeler of Arlington, Texas, Melinda Jean Brown of Scottsbluff, Neb. and Kerry Lynn Montgomery and husband Kevin of Burleson, Texas; a brother, James Paul Jones of Chicago Ridge; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
John was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War, was a ranch hand and farrier and he loved fishing and hunting.
Graveside Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Smith Veterans Cemetery in Jefferson County, with Chaplain Ernie Collins presiding.
Interment will be at Smith Veterans Cemetery. Members of Mount Vernon American Legion Post #141 will conduct Full Military Honors at the cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
