Born to Harry E. and Lois I. Rucker Harshman. Served in the navy in WWII. Graduated from the College of Idaho in Caldwell. Earned a degree in Civil Engineering with minors in psychology and philosophy of religion. First teaching job in New Plymouth, Idaho, where he met and married Bobbie Dee Laughlin. Survived by wife, Bobbie, three sons; Robert, Scott, Craig and foster son Steve Trump. Daughter Debbie. Several grandchildren.

Taught math, physics and humanities at Dayton High School, Dayton, Washington, from 1960 to 1985. Moved to Springfield, Missouri, after retirement where he passed away from a heart attack in 1987.
