Jury service records prove James Lanford was born in 1740. He was a Revolutionary War veteran, Army and Navy. He married Mary Frances "Frankey" Lowry Lanford before July, 1768. They had seven children: Sarah "Sallie", James Jr., Lewis, William, Nancy, Mary, and John, who was born 8/16/1780. Mary Frances Lanford died in Anson Co., N.C. in 1781 according to The Chronicles of Scotch Irish Settlement. After the War, James moved to SC and settled on Jammie's Creek, near Cavin's Old Field. Most of the Lanfords in the Spartanburg/Greenville County area are descendants of James and Mary Frances Lowry Lanford.
