Floyd Chester "Chet" Wahlen, 90, of Aberdeen, Idaho, passed away Monday, July 18, 2011, at his home.

Chet was born Jan. 15, 1921, on the farm where he still lives. He was the sixth child of seven children born to Fred and Alma Malmstrom Wahlen. He was welcomed into the family by two brothers, Clarence "Clix" and Ferris, and one sister, Mabel Phillips Gull.

Chet started school at Grandview in 1927. Chester finished ninth grade in Grandview and then went to Aberdeen to attend high school. He loved all sports and particularly enjoyed basketball and baseball. He graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1940.

In August 1942, Chet enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. He was honorably discharged from the military on Oct. 13, 1945, and returned to work the family farm with his brother Ferris.

He met a beautiful redhead from Thomas, Idaho, Orva Marie Broadhead, and they were married in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple on Aug. 5, 1947.

Chester spent 52 years farming in the Grandview area and Pleasant Valley.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as bishop, in bishoprics, the Young Men's organization, High Council, and as a High Priest teacher and home teacher. He was a temple worker and served on the school board in Aberdeen School.

After Orva Marie passed away, he married Carla Adamson on March 28, 1997. Chet and Carla have enjoyed several years of traveling and keeping up with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Chet is survived by his wife, Carla; children, David (Colette) Wahlen of Aberdeen, Susan (Melvin) Markham of Huntington Beach, Calif., Kim Wahlen of Aberdeen, Jan (Dave) Baker of West Jordan, Utah, Wendy Wahlen of Huntington Beach, Calif., Val (Lori) Wahlen of Aberdeen and Eric (Ralene) Wahlen of Aberdeen; stepchildren, Paul (Stephanie) Adamson of Aberdeen, Denise (Matt) Moody of Eagle Mountain, Utah, Kathy (Mike) Blaker of Aberdeen, Keri (Mark) Bellows of Rochester, Minn., Jonathan (Tiffani) Adamson of American Falls and Melissa (Menny) Rodriguez of Bountiful, Utah; 50 grandchildren; and 50 great-grandchildren.

Chet was preceded in death by his wife, Orva Marie; parents; daughter-in-law, Connie Wahlen; three infant sisters, Erma, Lenore and Felicia; and siblings, Clarence "Clix," Ferris and Mabel.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 25, at the Lakeview LDS Chapel in Springfield, Idaho. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home in Blackfoot.
