Leavenworth, Kan. — The Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth mourn the loss of Sister Agnes Mary Brickley, 91, who died on Sunday, July 17, 2011, in Ross Hall at the Mother House of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth.
Mary Winifred Brickley was born on August 18, 1919 in Emporia, KS, one of five children of Michael and Mary Deck Brickley. After graduating from St. Mary's Academy, Leavenworth, KS, she entered the religious community of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth on September 5, 1937 and, as Sister Agnes Mary, made her profession of vows on June 18, 1939.
Sister Agnes Mary taught and served as principal in elementary schools across Kansas, Missouri, Colorado, and Montana. She served as the Community School Supervisor from 1966-1974 and was an invaluable resource for all those who taught in elementary schools staffed by SCLs.
Sister Agnes Mary received both a B.A. in Administration and a M.S. in Elementary Administration from Saint Mary College, Leavenworth, KS. She also attended the University of Dayton in Colorado.
Survivors include extended family members, numerous friends and her SCL Community.
A vigil will be held at 7:00 p.m. in Ross Chapel of the Sisters of Charity Mother House in Leavenworth where friends may call after 4:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Ross Chapel at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 21. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery on the Mother House grounds.
