Pioneer Resident Plymouth County Called By Death
George Stinton, a pioneer resident of western Plymouth County, passed away at the state hospital, Cherokee, Iowa, where he had been a patient for several weeks, on Monday, August 9, at the age of 75 years, 3 months and 6 days, from a lung infection and complications.
George H. Stinton, son of Joseph and Esther Stinton, was born in Clinton County, Iowa, on May 3, 1862. In 1870 he came west with his parents to Plymouth County, driving across the state in a covered wagon and bringing their cattle with them, the journey taking about a month's lime. They located on a farm near Adaville and were among the earliest settlers in that vicinity.
George Stinton never married. He continued farming near Adaville until about 1915, when he came to Akron and had since resided there. He owned the farm at tile time of his death. A man of upright character, industrious habits and a kind and jovial nature, he was held in high esteem in a wide circle of friends.
He leaves to mourn his departure, three brothers, Silas, of Akron; Joseph, of Minden, Neb., and Everett, of Lucas, S.D., and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Hilliker, of Akron, and Mrs. Litha Morehead, of Montevideo, Minn., and many other relatives, who have the sympathy of the community in their bereavement.
Funeral services were held at 1:45 o'clock Thursday afternoon From the funeral home and at 2 o'clock at the Akron M. K. church, conducted by Rev. J. F. Moore. Interment was made in the Pleasant Valley cemetery at Adaville.
